Mariah Carey cemented her legendary diva status when she arrived late to accept the Icon Award at the BMI Urban Music Awards. When you’ve written as many hit songs as Carey has and are considered one of the greatest voices of a generation, you can do that sort of thing.
Late or on time, Carey admitted to feeling modest when she said, “I’m so humbled by this moment because a lot of people still don’t know I write my own songs.”
Ironically, also honored at the show (though not present to collect her award), was rumored “American Idol” judge Nicki Minaj. The rapper’s hit song “Super Bass” was being honored as one of the most-played hits of the year.
