Madonna so desperately wanted to play the role of Warhol superstar and transvestite Candy Darling in an upcoming film that she's agreed to work for free. Dear producers of this movie: you may be saving a bundle by having Madonna work sans salary, but you'll be paying dearly when Madge's "acting" "skills" stink up your picture. Two words: Swept Away!
Candy Darling is known for her work in Warhol films like Trash and Women in Revolt, and was immortalized in Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" and "Candy Says". According to friends, Madonna has been dying for a meaty role for some time–she wants to prove to the world that she can act, which is just so cute and sad and sweet that we want to pat her on her tiny head. Madonna secured the role after her longtime friend, agent Bryan Lourd, helped her meet with producers of the upcoming as-yet-untitled biopic. We think this is a great idea! Except for the fact that Candy was 29 when she died, and Madonna is, like, 70. Oh, and also that Madonna is biologically female, there's that.
