Madonna was not happy when she smelled cigarettes during a sound check in Santiago, Chile. Apparently, several fans had been given exclusive access to the sound check and weren’t abiding by the “no smoking” rules at the outdoor arena.
The “Material Girl” was already battling weather elements when she became the victim of second-hand smoke inhalation. Her umbrella had inverted, causing the crowd to laugh, and that’s when things got serious.
A frustrated Madonna told the crowd, “There are people smoking right now. No smoking. If you’re going to smoke cigarettes, I’m not doing a show. You don’t care about me, I don’t care about you. All right? Are we going to play that game? I’m not kidding. I can’t sing if you smoke.”
She followed up with a quick “Entiendes?” At that point, someone in the crowd must have shouted their love for the singer because she responds, “If you love me then don’t smoke.”
Her words must have fallen on deaf ears because she said, “You’re looking right at me and smoking cigarettes, like I’m a stupid f—ing idiot,” before walking off stage. It looks like she wasn’t bluffing.
