M.I.A‘s relationship with her label Roc Nation is on shaky ground. The rapper starred in a documentary about her life, directed by Steve Loveridge. However, it seems Roc Nation does not approve to the upcoming film.
The documentary’s release has been delayed, but Loveridge wanted to give fans a sneak peek, so he shared a five-minute clip on YouTube. The video has since been pulled due to a copyright claim from Roc Nation. Loveridge then posted an email he received from the label and his subsequent reply, which included him quitting the project. Not to worry though, because the documentary teaser has since been reposted to Vimeo.
M.I.A’s upcoming album “Matangi” has also been delayed several times, and currently does not have a release date. According to the rapper, her label is simply not happy about the subject matter.
“At the moment, I’ve been told it’s too positive. So we’re having a bit of an issue at the label,” she said.
