You might remember earlier this week when the lovely Anne Hathaway had a “sad off” with the very talented Samuel L. Jackson. Well, now both of their movies have been released and in the end, it’s Hathaway who is having the last laugh, or cry, as it were.
“Les Miserables” has broken box office records with its Christmas day release. Never before has a holiday movie made so much money in advance ticket sales. The film made a total of around $17.5 million.
Its competitor, “Django Unchained,” came in a distant second with just over $11 million dollars. Hopefully this means we’ll see a follow-up to Hathaway and Jackson’s “sad off” competition.
Rounding out the top five were “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” which came in third place with an estimated $9 million. The comedy “Parental Guidance” came in fourth with $5.5 million, and “Jack Reacher” made $4.5 million for a fifth place finish.
