Kirk Douglas, 95, might have found the key to the fountain of youth: giving to those less fortunate. He and his wife Anne are donating an astonishing $50 million to various charities. As Douglas himself said, “Anne and I are of one mind in our philosophical approach to philanthropy. We believe caring is sharing.”
Two of the charities that will share in the generous pledge are The Kirk Douglas Theater in Culver City and Anne’s Los Angeles women’s shelter. Also on the list is Harry’s Haven Alzheimer’s wing at the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s retirement home and hospital, which will be improved from its current state. Another beneficiary of the donation is St. Lawrence University, Douglas’ alma mater, which will use the money to boost the school’s scholarship program for minority students.
