The Duchess of Cambridge has welcomed a baby boy. Kate Middleton gave birth earlier today at St. Mary’s Hospital in London. His Royal Highness the Prince of Cambridge was born at 4:24pm local time, weighing in at 8 lbs 6oz. Prince William was by his wife’s side through the entire labor.
“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight,” a statement read.
The palace made an adjustment in their birth announcement by releasing a formal statement before having the announcement posted on an easel, the same that was used when Prince William was born, just inside the front gates for press.
With the UK press on high royal baby alert, it is likely that Kate and Will’s baby will make his public debut much in the same way William himself did — outside of the hospital being held by his mother.
The newborn prince is the first grandchild of Prince Charles.
