A statement on the festival’s website indicates that the award is “for the historic discovery of Bieber on YouTube and his subsequent social media rise,” adding that the Canadian singer has made significant contributions “in the worlds of business, technology, arts, entertainment and beyond.”
Also set to be honored at the Disruptive Innovation Awards are Def Jam Records founder Rick Rubin, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and Room to Read founder John Wood. The latter two honorees will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards.
