Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt film “Looper” to open Toronto

The 2012 version of the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival has announced its opening night film. “Looper,” directed by Rian Johnson (with whom we talked about “Brothers Bloom” at TIFF just a few years back) will take the top spot, kicking off the festival on September 6, 2012.

Johnson first came to attention with the high-school indie flick “Brick” and his sci-fi film “Looper,” in which assassins can travel back in time to rid the world of those who’ve become a problem in this world, stars long time collaborator Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as well as Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt.

Over recent years, TIFF has become a key indicator of the films that should be taken seriously come awards season, and with this morning’s announcement of other key galas and special presentations – directed by Ben Affleck (“Argo”), Robert Redford (“The Company You Keep”) and Billy Bob Thornton (“Jayne Mansfield’s Car”) there’s no doubt this year will follow suit.
