Johnny Depp’s new film, “The Rum Diary,” is adapted from the novel by Hunter S. Thompson. Depp portrayed Thompson in “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” and the two were close friends until Thompson took his life. Like any good friend, Depp helped pay for Thompson’s elaborate cannon-firing funeral, then set about bringing one of the author’s written works to life. And now it has its first poster.
If you’re a fan of “Fear and Loathing” then you’ll love “The Rum Diary,” starring Depp, Aaron Eckhart, Amber Heard and Giovanni Ribisi.
Given that the poster doesn’t have Depp’s face on it, and that he is clearly the film’s strongest marketing advantage, we’ve got to think there’s another on the way. Still, we’ll accept this expression of cool alcoholism in the meantime.
