John Legend graces the cover of the latest issue of Fault magazine. The singer, who was styled by fashion aficionado Avo Yermagyan, spoke to the magazine about his own musical influences and provided advice to young singers looking to get into the music business.
“Work hard, develop your own sound and learn all the different processes of making music,” the 34-year-old singer advises. “A good song is a good song regardless of [its] genre. There are fewer concentrated ways to get your music out there, but marketing can happen so many different ways these days, like social media, different talent shows, etc.”
Of his own music, Legend says he has many Motown and soul influences.
“Well, when I was younger, lots of soul music: Motown and artists like Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Nat King Cole [and] Luther Vandross. Then, when I was a bit older (in my early teens), artists and groups like Jodeci had a big influence on me.”
Legend will be releasing a new album called “Love in the Future” later this year and says he plans to spend the rest of 2013 touring.
