LA Shorts Fest opens July 21 (and plays through July 29, 2011) at the Laemmle Sunset 5 in Hollywood. Although a film festival playing short films is nothing new, some of the directors are names we’re more familiar with on the other side of the camera.
Jessica Biel wrote and directed “Sodales,” an action/adventure film that runs 14 minutes; Eva Mendes directed “California Romanza,” a romance running 19 minutes (starring Christina Ricci and Kathy Najimy); and Rachel Weisz directed “The Thief” a 15-minute drama with Rosemarie Dewitt and Joel Edgerton.
As part of the opening night program of the festival, it’s an easier way to get up close and personal with talent we normally associate with less accessible A-list evenings.
