NBC has scrapped their Hillary Clinton miniseries. The network made the announcement just hours after CNN Films announced they had canceled their own Hillary Clinton documentary.
“After reviewing and prioritizing our slate of movie/miniseries development, we’ve decided that we will no longer continue developing the Hillary Clinton miniseries,” NBC said in a statement.
The four-hour miniseries was to star Diane Lane and was scheduled to air before Clinton was likely to announce her candidacy for president. It would have followed Clinton’s life as a mom and wife, as the First Lady, then as a politician. The series would have began during Bill Clinton‘s second term as president.
Both the CNN and NBC projects garnered controversy, with backlash from both the Democratic and Republican parties. Last month, The Republican National Committee even voted to boycott both networks during the 2016 presidential debates.
