Gwyneth Paltrow Wins ‘Glee’ Emmy

For her performance as substitute teacher Holly Holliday in “Glee,” Paltrow has picked up the Emmy statuette for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series.

Beating out Elizabeth Banks (“30 Rock”), Dot-Marie Jones (“Glee”), Cloris Leachman (“Raising Hope”), Shelley Long (“Modern Family”) and “Precious”-star Gabourey Sidibe (“The Big C”), the win is sure to raise some eyebrows among the establishment given Paltrow’s appearance in just three of the season’s episodes (Leachman, by comparison, appeared in 20 of the 22 episodes of her show). Still, the Gleeks will most certainly be thrilled, and with “Contagion” taking the #1 spot in theaters this weekend, the news is no doubt doubly as satisfying for Chris Martin’s Oscar-winning wife.

The Emmys awards telecast takes place on Sunday, September 18, 2011.
