It’s official! The “Boy Meets World” spinoff has gotten a full series order from Disney Channel.
“Girl Meets World” will center around Cory and Topanga’s daughter, Riley Matthews, as she encounters many of the same situations her father did at her age. Set in New York City, the show will follow Riley and her best friend Maya as they go through the many ups and downs of being in middle school. For Riley, things are bit harder since her father is a history teacher at her school and her mother owns a a popular after-school hangout.
Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will be returning to reprise their iconic roles. Michael Jacobs is back as executive producer. Rowan Blanchard stars as the lead role and Sabrina Carpenter will play her best friend. William Daniels (Mr. Feeny) is set to appear in the show’s first episode.
“I am grateful to everyone at Disney Channel for the opportunity to reach my favorite audience, which has always been kids,” said Jacobs, who also co-created the original series. “‘Girl Meets World’ is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made ‘Boy Meets World’ so popular.”
Production for “Girl Meets World” will begin this summer and the show will begin airing in 2014.
