“Game of Thrones” is back for its third season on HBO and it seems like their fan base has grown quite a bit since season two. The season premiere of “Game of Thrones” unexpectedly broke ratings records.
The Sunday night season premiere of “Game of Thrones” is the show’s most watched episode to date, bringing HBO 4.4 million viewers to its 9pm time slot. The episode also pulled it 6.7 million viewers in the two repeats the next day. These numbers are a 13% increase from the season two premiere and marks the most watched episode for the show, for both the original air time and the repeats.
The high ratings were certainly not expected for the “Game of Thrones” season three premiere. Viewership generally tends to dip quite low on Easter Sunday. The episode was also being aired at the same time as “The Walking Dead” season finale, giving it some pretty fierce competition.
What these numbers mean for the show is that season three is going to bring in some major numbers that will probably even surpass the premiere ratings.
