Frank Ocean has been forced to cancel his sold-out Australian tour after suffering a tear on his vocal cords. The singer began the tour, but suffered through the opening night. He has since been advised by doctors to cancel the remainder of the tour.
Ocean began his Down Under tour on Thursday in Melbourne at the Festival Hall. He was slated to play there again on Friday, with two shows in Sydney next week and at the Splendour in the Grass festival over the weekend, but all the upcoming shows have been canceled.
“After last night’s concert … it was necessary to seek medical advice due to vocal issues Frank Ocean experienced during the show,” Live Nation said in a statement. “It has subsequently been confirmed that Frank has suffered a small tear to one of his vocal cords and has received medical advice that he must rest his voice.”
During Ocean’s opening night, the singer noted that he was off-key. “I’m sick… I don’t know if you care,” he told the audience.”
There are currently no plans for Ocean to reschedule the canceled tour dates.
