She’s not just the farmer’s daughter anymore. While we’ve been busy watching episodes of “Modern Family,” Sofia Vergara has been busy building a multimillion-dollar empire. The lovely, enigmatic star graces the cover of the current issue of Forbes, which dubbed her television’s best-paid actress.
Forbes estimates that Vergara made $19 million over the past year, ensuring her the title of the top-earning actress on U.S. TV. It’s not just acting that has catapulted Vergara’s success and wealth, though: She’s also a shrewd businesswoman who was smart enough to be ahead of the curve when it came to the ever-growing influence of the Latino community.
Sixteen years ago, Vergara and her partner Luis Balaguer created their company Latin World Entertainment. What started as a humble little talent agency has now expanded to include licensing, marketing, production and new media ventures.
As Vergara puts it, “The truth is out that we’re in this country and we’re taking over. To see people paying attention to the cultural changes that Luis and I have seen coming for a long time is fantastic.”
It now seems to be a matter of kismet that this Colombian-born beauty has put herself on the map by becoming a part of America’s “Modern Family.”
