Charming bad-ass Jerry Orbach has passed away at age 69 after battling prostate cancer. We can only dream of what clever one-liners his most famous character, Law & Order's Lennie Briscoe, would be cracking in regards to his death.
The Emmy-nominated, Tony-winning actor was born in the Bronx and started his career in big-budget Broadway musicals The Fantasticks, Promises, Promises, Chicago, and 42nd Street. His began acting on screens both small and silver in the 80s, with roles in such movies as Crimes and Misdemeanors, F/X, the voice of singing candelabra Lumiere in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and Dirty Dancing, in which he famously put Baby in a corner. In 1992, Orbach took on his signature role of wise-cracking, alcoholic detective Lennie Briscoe on Law & Order, a character so beloved and so synonymous with the show and with New York that the city declared him a "living landmark" in 2002. Farewell, Mr. Orbach. Insert Law & Order's"dun-DUN" theme here.
Farewell, Lennie Briscoe.
