Fantasia Barrino is heading back to Broadway for “After Midnight.” Barrino will be the first in a series of guest headliners to celebrate the iconic jazz nightlife of Harlem. The new production hopes to attract music fans outside of the normal Broadway demographic.
Preview performances of “After Midnight” will begin on October 18 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The official opening is scheduled for November 3. The musical will be directed by Warren Carlyle and will be accompanied by Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz and Lincoln Center All-Stars. Fantasia, the season three “American Idol” winner, will appear in shows until February 9, 2014.
“After Midnight,” previously named “Cotton Club Parade,” will feature the music of Duke Ellington, poetry from Langston Hughes and 25 singers and dancers.
Fantasia has previously starred in the 2007 Broadway production of ‘The Color Purple.”
