Emmy Rossum looks glamorous in Manhattan magazine’s January/February 2013 issue. The actress hasn’t always had it easy though.
Rossum admits that she had to fight hard to get her lead role on the Showtime series “Shameless.” She said of producers, “They didn’t want to see me; they wouldn’t even [let me] audition. They thought my image too glamorous, that I couldn’t not be pretty.”
So how did she change their mind? She took matters in her own hands and sent a tape of herself to producers, completely in character as Fiona. They flew her out the next day and three auditions later, she landed the part.
Fiona and Rossum share similarities. “I don’t let anything send me into a tailspin. I never have; it’s not in my nature.” They also share differences. “Fiona is very sexually liberated. She’s also a loudmouth, and there’s safety in that. But I’m not the sex-on-the-first-date kind of girl.”
