Famed music producer Dr. Luke is reportedly joining “American Idol” as the third judge for the upcoming 13th season.While Fox and Dr. Luke have yet to make an official announcement, the news was confirmed by the producer’s protege, Becky G.
“It’s gonna happen,” Becky G told The Hollywood Reporter. “I think he’ll do great and I’m really excited about it.”
Singer Jason Derulo, who has worked with Dr. Luke, thinks the producer would be perfect for the job.
“I think he would be perfect. There’s nobody bigger than Dr. Luke in terms of production and actually making a hit song.”
It was previously rumored that “Idol” turned to stars like Will.i.am and Kanye West to fill the last spot. West ultimately turned them down and Will.i.am chose to return to “The Voice” UK instead. It was also reported that Justin Bieber‘s manager Scooter Braun was in talks with the show, but that scenario didn’t work out because Braun also wanted to manage to “Idol” winner, a job which is already taken by the show’s creator, Simon Fuller.
Dr. Luke is well-known in the music industry for producing huge pop hits such as Kelly Clarkson‘s “Since U Been Gone” and Pink‘s “Who Knew.” He is also known for his work with Britney Spears and produced Miley Cyrus‘ upcoming album, “Bangerz.”
The 13th season of “American Idol” returns to Fox in January 2014.
