Claire Danes poses with her “Homeland” costar Damian Lewis in a new feature for Vogue magazine. Danes has become one of the fiercest heroines on television, proving her place as a Hollywood elite and arguably one of the finest actresses of her generation.
“Claire can be awkward and graceful and beautiful and not so beautiful and tortured and calm, and we have all that roiling inside of us, but we are so often typed or labeled,” said Winnie Holzman, the creator of ‘My So-Called Life,’ the 90s television series that put Danes on the map. “Sometimes we watch people who we want to learn from or be a little like.”
As a new mom, Danes has the difficult task of managing her career with motherhood. The actress recalled being at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, where she won the award for Best Actress in a TV series and had to sneak out to feed her son, Cyrus.
“I went on the red carpet, went upstairs, fed Cyrus. Went into the ceremony, got the award, went back to feed Cyrus, went out again. . . . Then it was ‘Now you meet the president,’” she said, remembering her encounter with Bill Clinton. “I had these new boobs; I’m wearing a big Jessica Rabbit dress, and I’d been living in sweat pants for so long. . . . It was strange. It was dreamy, surrounded by my parents and my husband. It was one of the best nights of my life because of this perfect mash-up.”
