“Star Trek” stars Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana will be hosting the Academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards. The awards ceremony honours achievements in technology that help improve the movie industry. IMAX and Avid are previous winners.
Both Pine and Saldana have starred in movies that have taken filmmaking technology to the next level — both starred in 2009′s “Star Trek.” Saldana also starred in “Avatar,” which used 3D technology that has since become widely popular.
“We are thrilled to have Chris and Zoe host the Sci-Tech Awards,” Hawk Koch, Academy President, said in a statement. “Their film experience with the kind of technical advancements these awards honour makes them the perfect pair for the job.”
The Scientific and Technical Awards are taking place February 9 in Beverly Hills.
