Jamie Oliver has made it his mission to stamp out junk food in school lunches, and in a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the celebrity chef damned complacency in America for our country’s poor diet.
When asked how Congress could call pizza a vegetable, Oliver responded frankly, “It’s because the food companies of America own you. [The food industry is] more powerful than government. They’ve got better lawyers, more money, deeper pockets and really, they know that you’re all really busy worrying about a million other things.”
He then encouraged Kimmel’s viewers to contact their government representatives to “tell them how they’ve let us down.” Oliver’s show “Food Revolution” discusses the rise of food-related illnesses like type 2 diabetes in kids due to their poor diet.
