Song of the Week: Kanye West – Clique
Kanye West. Jay Z. Big Sean. The heavy hitters unite on “Clique,” the third single from the G.O.O.D. Music compilation “Cruel Summer.” Like everything Kanye and Jay Z (produced by Hit-Boy) release, Clique is blowing up and is being picked up by just about every music and entertainment outlet on the planet. Cruel Summer was released this week, and you should listen to the lyrics carefully – Kanye talking about his relationships makes for fascinating celeb fodder.
Album of The Week: “Searching For Sugar Man” by Rodriguez
Forget everything you know about music and icons of the 1970′s. In the movie “Searching for Sugar Man,” we learn about an artist who was barely visible.
The movie – the true story of a folk singer from Detroit – is poetic and inspiring. Rodriguez made two albums that totally bombed and was gone from the scene, his musical legacy only surviving via a handful of lucky people that knew and worked with him.
Fast forward to this summer, and the amazing documentary about his life now playing in theaters. The soundtrack will leave you wondering, why isn’t EVERYONE talking about this man? Enjoy the track, buy the album here: Go see the movie and support a rich legacy that, luckily, has been rediscovered. You can click through to our interview with Rodriguez here.
Music Video of the Week: The Walkmen – Love is Luck
“Heaven,” the recent album by The Walkmen, is good. Really good.
The band’s rock-powered harmonies present a polished sound that resonates on every press of the play button. The music is flush with every electrical instrument operating at the right wattage, combined with a powerful, lyrical sound. This video for “Love is Luck” shows The Walkmen killing it on Conan.
