Fresh off his second season as a judge on NBC’s “The Voice,” multitalented artist Cee Lo Green has signed on for a role in the upcoming film “Can a Song Save Your Life?” Green will play a hip-hop artist and posse leader named Troublegum.
The film is being written and directed by John Carney, whose previous film “Once” landed the Academy Award for Best Original Song and has since gone on to become a Tony Award-winning Broadway play. “Can a Song Save Your Life?” follows the story of aspiring musicians — Gretta, played by Keira Knightley, and her boyfriend, played by Adam Levine — as they head to New York in the pursuit of stardom.
The romance doesn’t last long, though. Once there, Gretta finds herself left behind after her boyfriend’s career takes off. Broke and alone, sleeping on a friend’s couch, she reluctantly continues on her own journey. It’s only when she’s spotted by a down-on-his-luck record producer, played by Mark Ruffalo, that things begin to turn around.
“Can a Song Your Life” is now filming in New York with an expected release date sometime next year.
