Cate Blanchett is making her directorial debut in “The Dinner.” The film is the second film adaptation of a novel of the same name by Herman Koch.
The novel centers around two brothers who meet for dinner with their wives to discuss some horrific violent acts performed by their teenage sons. During the dinner, they try to rationalize the situation, revealing along the way their respective parental extremes.
The first on-screen adaptation of “The Dinner” was a Dutch-language film directed by Menno Meyjes. The film opened at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, to rave reviews.
It is currently unclear if Blanchett is planning to star in her film version of the novel herself, as a cast has yet to announced.
