NBC’s “The New Normal” is getting ready for its first season finale (possibly its series finale), which will be full of new babies and wedding bells.
“We’re definitely planning a wedding and a birth, so there’s a lot of stuff that’s going to happen in the finale,” star of the show Justin Bartha told The Hollywood Reporter. “David [played by Bartha] and Bryan [played by Andrew Rannells] are trying to plan a wedding and have it be the wedding of their dreams. Their mothers get involved and it becomes harder to do that. David’s mother (Jackie Hoffman) will be back and Bryan’s mother (Mary Kay Place) is around, so there’s lots of meddling.”
In the same episode, Goldie (played by Georgia King) will be giving birth to Bryan and David’s baby. Viewers can probably expect chaos and a bit of hilarity.
“You can’t have a show where a pregnancy happens in the first episode and now have a birth in the finale,” said co-creator Ali Adler. “We’re very excited and proud of the very unique way we’re doing this. The wedding doesn’t happen the way you think and the birth doesn’t happen the way you think. It’s really very moving.”
NBC has yet to announce the fate of the show that hasn’t exactly been raking in the ratings. Rannells, however, promises the season finale will give viewers a satisfying ending if “The New Normal” doesn’t return for a second season.
“If for some reason we don’t come back, this is a very satisfying way to wrap up what we’ve done for the past 22 episodes,” he said. “Obviously we’d all like it to continue, but if for some reason this was the end, we’ve give a very complete story.”
“The New Normal” finale airs tonight (April 2) on NBC.
