Bryan Cranston has signed on to star as blacklisted screenwriter, Dalton Trumbo, in the upcoming indie film “Trumbo.” The movie is being directed by Jay Roach.
The movie is based on the real-life story of a screenwriter in the 1940s who also happened to be a member of the American Communist Party. His career began to crumble after a group of Hollywood filmmakers were called on by the House Committee on Un-American Activities to testify about communist activities. Trumbo refused to provide information and became known as a member of the ‘Hollywood 10′, a group of writers and directors that were blacklisted by movie studios.
After spending 11 months in jail, Trumbo went on to continue his career as a screenwriter under pseudonym names, but was unable to recover once the damage was done to his career.
The film marks Cranston’s second post “Breaking Bad” project, and will begin filming in 2014.
