Comedian Rosie O’Donnell posted on her blog today that she suffered a heart attack last week and an aspirin saved her life. After helping a woman in a parking lot earlier in the day, she reports that her body hurt, her chest ached and her arms were sore. She thought maybe she’d strained herself, but then she felt nauseated and vomited. She looked up the symptoms for a heart attack and found that she was exhibiting many of them. She took an aspirin and went to bed.
The next day she went to a cardiologist and discovered that her left anterior descending coronary artery was 99 percent blocked. A stent was implanted.
“50% of women having heart attacks never call 911,” she wrote, “200,000 women die of heart attacks/every year in the US. … i am lucky to be here.”
