Ben Affleck received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Brown University. The actor was on hand at Sunday’s commencement ceremony to receive the degree.
Of the accomplishment, Affleck revealed he’s happy to have surpassed his friend Matt Damon when it comes to higher education.
“This is a spectacular honor for me. Among other things today, in terms of higher education, I passed Matt Damon,” he said.
Damon was an undergrad student at Harvard University, but didn’t graduate. Meanwhile, Affleck attended the University of Vermont but dropped out after one semester.
Affleck also quipped about his daughter Violet’s thoughts on his honorary degree.
“She said, ‘Why are you doing that, Dad? You went to no classes and did no homework.’ ”
In his short and sweet speech, Affleck dedicated the degree to his mom, who was in attendance at the ceremony.
“This means a lot to her,” he said. “She never got to see me graduate from any higher education at all. So, Mom, this is for you. I love you.”
