Barbara Walters recently announced her retirement from her long career as a journalist. “The View” host said a shocking confession from her grandmother inspired her to take a step back from the limelight.
“A few years ago, I wrote in my autobiography about my grandmother, who announced on her deathbed that she was a virgin,” Walters recalled. “And her seven children said, ‘Ma, there are seven of us here… you must have done something with Dad,’ and she said, ‘Yes, but I never participated.’ So I have been participating now for a great number of years, and it’s almost time to stop participating.”
Walters will be ending her career in May 2014 and hopes to have Monica Lewinsky, Queen Elizabeth II, or the Pope as her last interview. She has been working as a journalist since the 1960s.
