Alec Baldwin Starrer ‘Orphans’ to End Broadway Run Early

The revival of “Orphans,” which stars Alec Baldwin, Tom Sturridge and Ben Foster, is shutting down six weeks early. The play centers around two orphaned brothers who kidnap a wealthy gangster.

Despite the fact that the Daniel Sullivan production has been nominated for a Tony Award for the best revival of a play, it seems “Orphans” has had trouble impressing critics and with the box office. Sturridge has also received a nomination for his role of younger brother Phillip.

“Orphans” has suffered its fair share of drama. Shia LaBeouf was originally slated to star in the production but left just weeks before its opening due to ‘creative differences’ with Alec Baldwin. Following the announcement, LaBeouf leaked a slew of emails between himself, Baldwin and Sullivan. The emails certainly hinted at some friction. It was after LaBeouf’s departure that Foster was brought on.

“Orphans” will be closing on May 19. It was originally scheduled to run until June 30.
