“American Idol” alum Adam Lambert confirmed today that he’s joining legendary band Queen for a July 7 performance at the Sonisphere Festival in Knebworth, England.
“Sorry to be coy about the details the past few weeks, but I made a promise to keep it under wraps as best I could,” he tweeted this afternoon. Gonna be a surreal night!”
Lambert has performed onstage twice with Queen: in 2009 at the finals of “American Idol” and at the 2011 MTV EMAs. Earlier this month, the singer shot down a Daily Star report that he was joining Queen permanently, tweeting, “Them clever reporters takin my quotes outta context. I haven’t confirmed any guest appearances… I’m truly flattered by your jump to such glorious conclusions mr journalist!!
” [sic]
Here’s a video of Adam Lambert performing a Queen medley with the band at the 2011 EMAs. Of course, there’s no replacing Freddie Mercury, but do you think Lambert has the vocal chops to sing with Queen after Sonisphere?

Brian and Roger of Queen seem to be happy with him and so does the audience at the EMAs. Adam Lambert is an incredible singer and performer. He will do Freddie proud. I am sure Freddie, the ultimate performer, would like the show to go on and have Queen’s music shared with a new generation.
Adam Lambert definitely has the vocal chops to sing with Queen once again. Adam has already performed with them twice so Roger and Brian have had ample opportunity to assess his capabilities. They obviously have no doubt that Adam is up to the challenge because they have nothing but the highest praise for Adam’s vocal chops.
