Move over, “American Idol,” “Q’Viva” and “The Voice”: ABC has just picked up “Duets,” a music-competition series that will feature Kelly Clarkson, Robin Thicke, Jennifer Nettles and Lionel Richie as celebrity mentors and duet partners.
“Duets” will begin airing this summer. Its concept is relatively simple: the celebrity mentors will each select two undiscovered vocalists to take under their wing and perform with every week. The winner of the show will sign with Hollywood Records.
“The simple fact that I get to go out and find two people that I believe in, sing with them every week, and help them accomplish their dream is an amazing thing that I can’t wait to be a part of,” said Clarkson.
Richie echoed Clarkson’s excitement, adding that he plans to take a different tack with his mentorship. “My goal will be to focus on developing true artistry and giving them the tools necessary to be creative artists instead of created artists,” he said.
Do you think the crowded niche of celebrity music competitions has room for one more hit show?
