
“A Good Day to Die Hard” won this weekend’s box office battle, as expected. The fifth instalment in the “Die Hard” franchise grossed $25 million from Friday to Sunday and is expected to earn $30 million over the entire President’s Day long weekend.
The action movie also did well overseas, earning $61.1 million in the international box office and a total earning of $113.3 million worldwide.
Coming in second is “Identity Thief,” starring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman. In its second weekend at the box office, the movie earned $23.4 million and is expected to gross a total of $27.7 million for the entire holiday weekend. This would give the movie a total of $75 million in domestic earnings since its opening.
“Safe Haven,” a Nicholas Sparks adaptation starring Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough, took the third spot. It earned $21.4 million from Friday to Sunday and is expected to earn $25 million by the end of the holiday weekend. Both “Safe Haven” and “A Good Day to Die Hard” premiered on Valentine’s Day.
