Likely propelled by its many tributes to the late Whitney Houston, the 2012 Grammy Awards had its best ratings since 1984. Some 39 million viewers tuned in to watch the awards show last night — 41 percent more than last year.
Most notably, Jennifer Hudson performed an emotional rendition of “I Will Always Love You,” choking back tears all the while. You might recall that Houston presented Hudson with her first Grammy Award back in 2008, making her tribute even more fitting. Grammy host LL Cool J also opened the broadcast with a prayer on Houston’s behalf.
